Structural Pest Control Act Reinstated

As President of the Illinois Pest Control Association, I am pleased to announce that the Governor has signed HB 4407 (Coulson/Steans) into law, reinstating the Structural Pest Control Act effective immediately.

Over the past seven months, we in the pest control industry have been in a precarious position with regard to the state and federal regulations governing the proper handling of chemicals, safety precautions and licensure of companies and technicians. We are proud the way our IPCA members stepped up and continued practicing with the highest level of integrity and professionalism in order to protect the health and property of our communities.

I am also very proud of the leadership role taken by the IPCA in working to reinstate our licensing Act. IPCA took the lead for the industry, hiring a highly respected and effective lobbyist to work with both Democratic and Republican members of the Illinois House and Senate, guide our bill through the legislative process, and ensure its signature by Governor Blagojevich. I would also be remiss if I did not recognize and publicly thank Representative Elizabeth Coulson and Senator Heather Steans for the efforts they made in the General Assembly on our behalf.

The IPCA acknowledges the financial support of the National Pest Management Association and the partnership of Safer Pest Control, the Greater Chicago Pest Management Alliance and the Illinois Environmental Council for the combined efforts to communicate the importance of this Act to the members of the General Assembly.

Now that the Act is in place, credits earned during the past few months have been imported into the IDPH database, and IPCA continues to make recertification hours available for you and your technicians.
